Are you passionate about climbing and want to make it your job?

The training as a rock guide leads to a federal certificate. Currently the training process is divided into four bodies: Youth+Sports, Swiss Alpine Club, Swiss Mountain Guides Association and sportartenlehrer.

To start, you must follow the Y+S course in sports climbing and obtain the Y+S instructor and course leader recognitions. Then, still with Y+S but organised by the SAC, it is necessary to obtain the Performance Sport recognition (formerly “Y+S sports climbing trainer”). For the latter, the technical level of examination is 7a on sight.

Then the training is managed by the SMGA in the form of modules: medicine, technical knowledge on the equipment and mechanics of falls, nature and environment (geology, glaciology, fauna, flora, environmental protection), business management (legal aspect, marketing, business plan, etc.), communication management, coaching method, driving technique and race planning.

During the training, 15 days of internships with a trained rock guide are required.

Finally, the experts of sportartenlehrer (an association of 17 Swiss sports associations and professional organisations) conduct a 3-day examination (7b on sight, practice with a client, theory and defence of a case).
